Session Explorer for Assessments

2 min. readlast update: 09.22.2026

Session Explorer, located within Honorlock Hub, allows exam administrators and reviewers to build, save, and reuse custom filters across multiple assessments and courses. By grouping session behaviors, severity levels, tags, and review statuses, Session Explorer streamlines manual review processes into efficient integrity workflows.

Getting Started

When opening Session Explorer, you are presented with default and saved views:

  • Honorlock Recommended: A pinned, daily-updated view that automatically surfaces sessions recommended for review.

  • Pinned Views: Quick-access shortcuts to custom views saved by you or your team.

  • Views Picker: A searchable directory containing all available filtered views.

Building a Custom Query

When pre-set views do not meet your needs, use the Query Builder to build custom logic with flexible conditions.

  • Clauses: Individual rules or flags (e.g., Phone Detected or High Severity).

  • Groups: Sets of clauses combined using AND or OR logic.

By stacking clauses and groups, you can refine your search to target specific behaviors. For example, you can query sessions that show "2 or more Focus Lost flags AND a Phone Detected" OR "3 or more Hotkey Detections."

Conditions are built using five clause types:

Flag: A specific behavior flagged during the session.

Severity: A threshold on high, medium, or low severity flag counts.

Tag: a customer-supplied session attribute such as subject, course level, or course code. Currently only available to API Interview Proctoring clients.

Status: The session's review status. Currently available only to Clients with Session Review Outcomes enabled at the institution level.

Clauses: Added through a menu, edited by clicking the resulting chip, and removed with an inline close control. Any custom query can be saved as a named view for later use. Please note that the user must apply the query changes prior to saving or updating a view.

Note: Custom queries must be applied before saving them as a new view.

Reviewing Results

Once a query is applied, the results dashboard provides two main sections:

  • Summary Bar: Highlights key performance indicators, including total matching sessions, flag percentages, high-severity counts, and top flag types.

  • Session Table: Displays individual session data—including test-taker details, course/assessment name, start date, matched flags, and flag severity. Table views can be adjusted to display 25, 50, or 100 results per page.
