Adding content

    1. Open your course and toggle on Edit Mode for the course.  The Edit Mode toggle can be located in the upper-right corner of the page.

    2. Select Add an activity or resource.

    3. Select the activity or resource to add to the course. To enable Honorlock, select Quiz.

    4. Add the name and a description(optional) to the quiz and select quiz options.

    5. Set the exam timing. Once enabled within the Honorlock LTI, this will be the proctored exam availability. Check the "Enable" box to change the exam's open and close dates and times.

    6. Extra Restrictions on Attempts setting.  It is important to make sure the required password field is blank and a password is not entered into this field.  Once Honorlock is enabled, The password for the exam will automatically be enabled for the exam and this field will remain blank.

    7. Select the remaining exam options and select Save and Display. This will allow you to add questions to the exam. You can add Questions individually from the Question Bank or select a random question.

    8. Once all questions have been added, save the quiz.

    Enable the exam with Honorlock

    1. Navigate to the Honorlock LTI within OpenLMS.  If you have questions about accessing this, please contact your institution or organization for the specific location.

    2. All of your course exams will be listed in the Honorlock LTI. To enable Honorlock for your exams, click on the blue 'Enable' button.

    3. Once the exam has been enabled, you can select the Proctoring Settings for the exam.  To enable a setting, click on the box for that setting. The blue checkbox will indicate the option is enabled. Clicking on the option again will deselect this option and turn it off. Depending on the options determined by your institutional administrator, you may or may not see all of these settings.  Some options may include a lock icon indicating that your administrator does not allow this setting to be edited for all assessments. For additional explanations about these settings, please scroll to the "Proctoring Setting" section of this article

*The Use Side-Angle Camera webcam setting requires activation at the institution  level.  Please contact your Customer Success Manager if you are interested in learning about activating this settings.

*Enhanced Desktop Security is an organization enablement. The feature must be enabled for the organization by the Customer Success Manager.

    1. Next, select the Test Taker Guidelines you deem applicable to this assessment.  You will notice that we have a list of items you can select to tell your test takers what they can and can not do during the assessment. Note: We strongly encourage you to clarify or expand upon any or all of the items you choose to enable in the Additional Instructions section below. When starting their exam, these guidelines and additional instructions will be visible to test takers. They will be utilized by our proctors to determine what is and isn't allowed during the assessment.

    2. The next section is the accommodations section. These will only be visible to the Honorlock proctors. Whatever the accommodation may be, include the test taker's name and the accommodation details in this section. For more information, please visit Accommodations with Honorlock .

    3. Last but not least, you can toggle the Assessment Visibility. We always suggest you leave this to the "no" option as default, which would respect the exam availability dates and times you set up within itself. Selecting "yes" would allow the test takers to see the assessment listed outside the preset window you had previously selected. Click the enable button, and the exam will be enabled with Honorlock.

    Proctoring Settings

    • Record Webcam
Records HD video of the test taker’s face and testing environment using either the device’s built-in webcam or an external webcam.

    • Record Screen
Records HD video of the test taker’s laptop or desktop screen during the exam.

    • Record Web Traffic
Logs and monitors browser activity within Google Chrome throughout the exam session.

    • Test Taker Photo
Requires the test taker to capture a still photo before beginning the assessment.

    • Test Taker ID
Requires the test taker to capture a webcam image of a government-issued photo ID or institutional test taker ID. Honorlock verifies that the name on the ID matches the name listed in the LMS.

    • Room Scan
Requires the test taker to provide a 360-degree view of their testing environment using their webcam. Onscreen instructions guide the test taker through this process.
If specific items must be shown (e.g., blank scratch paper, cell phone placed out of reach), those requirements should be detailed in the Additional Instructions section.

    • Calculators
Allows either a basic or scientific calculator during the assessment. Enabling one calculator option automatically disables the other.

    • Disable Copy/Paste
Prevents test takers from copying exam content and pasting it outside the assessment.

    • Disable Printing
Blocks access to the browser’s print function to prevent printing or exporting exam content.

    • BrowserGuard™
Honorlock’s secure browser feature that prevents access to applications outside of Google Chrome. Attempts to access external applications generate an automated flag for review during exam result evaluation. For additional details, refer to the BrowserGuard™ and Allowed Site URLs FAQ.

    • Allowed Site URLs
Permits access to specific external websites in a separate Chrome tab during the exam. Examples include e-textbooks, DESMOS, or other approved resources.
Each URL must be added individually by selecting “Add Site.” Links should also be included in the exam instructions or question stem so test takers can easily access them. Approved URLs are available before launching proctoring and during the exam through the test taker toolbar.

    • Simulated – Not Proctored
Provides a simulated proctoring experience without recording or flagging. This setting is intended only for low-stakes assessments.

    Test Taker Guidelines

These preset instructions define what materials and behaviors are permitted during the assessment. They also inform Honorlock Proctors and Support staff of approved allowances.

    Open Book Allowed
Permits use of a physical book or e-book during the assessment. If an e-book is allowed, the link must be included in the “Allowed Site URLs” section.

    Notes Allowed
Permits reference to physical or digital notes during the exam.

    Scratch Paper Allowed
Allows use of blank paper and a writing utensil during the assessment. Multiple sheets are permitted.

When Scratch Paper Allowed, Notes Allowed, or Open Book Allowed is enabled:

    • Test takers who are partially out of webcam view will not be flagged or have their exam paused.

    • Test takers who are completely out of view will be flagged.

    • For institutions using Live Proctoring services, Live Pop-Ins will not occur for test takers who are partially out of view under these settings.

    Restroom Breaks Allowed
Permits test takers to leave webcam view briefly. When enabled, test takers may leave the testing area for up to five minutes without their exam being paused or flagged.
Institutions are encouraged to provide specific limits on duration or frequency in the Additional Instructions section.

    Handheld Calculator
Permits use of a physical handheld calculator. Use of a calculator on a mobile phone is not permitted.

    Hats Allowed
Permits baseball caps or hoodies during the assessment. Religious head coverings are always permitted.

    Headphones Allowed
When enabled, test takers may wear headphones during the exam.
When disabled, wearing headphones will generate a high flag in session results. For Live Proctoring customers, a Live Pop-In will occur if headphones are worn when not permitted.

Take Exam in a Public Area
Permits completion of the assessment in environments such as libraries or coffee shops where others may be present. Test takers may not interact with others during the exam.
When enabled, Honorlock will not flag multiple faces detected in the webcam view.

    Background Noise Allowed
Permits testing in environments with background conversation or ambient noise.

    Mobile Phone Use Allowed
When enabled, permits test takers to use a mobile phone during the assessment.
