Help CenterSome exams require a side-view angle to capture your workspace, hands, and keyboard during testing. The primary and recommended way to turn your smartphone into a side-view camera is by using the Honorlock Mobile Application.
Check Your Equipment
Recommended Setup

Primary Device: Laptop or desktop computer.

Side-View Camera: Smartphone running the Honorlock Mobile Application (if enabled by your institution).

Alternative Camera Options: An external USB webcam or a third-party camera app.

Accessories (Optional): Tripod, gooseneck stand, or a stack of books/mug to prop up your phone. A USB extension cable can also be used if your cable is short.
Unsupported Devices: iPads, Amcrest cameras, and NexiGo cameras are not compatible with Honorlock.
Prepare Your Workspace

Environment: Select a quiet, well-lit room.

Desk Setup: Clear your entire desk surface, leaving only your computer and authorized exam materials.
Position Your Camera

Find the right distance: Sit in your chair and stretch your arm out to the side. Place your camera right where your fingertips end (about 3 feet away). *This distance is a suggestion and may vary depending on the requirements of your exam administrator. |

Prop it up: Set the camera on a tripod, a stack of books, a shelf, or prop your phone up against a heavy mug. *If a mobile phone is used as the side angle camera, it must be used in landscape mode. |

Adjust Your Camera View
Look at the camera preview screen on your computer and align your angle so all four key points are clearly visible:

Side profile of your face/head

Your hands
-
Your keyboard
-
Your computer screen (and any permitted notes/resources)
Note: You may have additional requirements for what should be in view during proctoring. Please refer to the assessment guidelines and instructions for additional information and if you need to adjust your view.
Tip: Use the on-screen Honorlock alignment overlay to position your shot. You can switch the overlay side depending on which side your camera is placed. Perfect alignment isn't required as long as all four key points are visible.
