Connecting a Mobile Device
When you start the authentication process you may see, “Get the Honorlock Mobile App”. This will allow you to scan the QR code and download the Honorlock Mobile application.

When you launch a proctored exam, and the mobile app is enabled, an option appears: "How would you like to set up?"

Note: The mobile app works only on phones. The mobile app is not compatible with iPads or tablets.
If you select to Continue on the computer instead, the authentication proceeds on the computer. If side-angle webcam is enabled, you will be prompted to connect a camera during that step, including the option to scan a QR code and use the mobile app as the side-angle camera.
You will need to download Chrome on your phone and have Chrome open when launching the exam to use the Honorlock mobile app.
Mobile App Orientation
You can access a brief onboarding guide by tapping How This Works on the app's home screen. The guide covers the app's purpose, how to join a session via a QR code, what each authentication step entails, and a final "That's it!" summary. You can revisit the guide at any time from the home screen.
ID Verification
If ID verification is enabled for the exam, you will need to verify your identity with a government- or institution-issued photo ID (military IDs and bank cards are not accepted). You can either scan the ID using the phone's camera or upload a photo from their photo library.
The ID Verification screen supports both landscape and portrait capture orientations. The app provides a framing guide to ensure correct alignment. If the scan fails, you will be prompted to try again. After the maximum number of failed attempts, you will be directed to contact support.

Workspace Scan
You will be asked to acknowledge a workspace checklist before continuing:
-
Taking the assessment at a table or desk
-
Clutter removed from the workspace
-
Only using allowed materials and devices
Once you acknowledge the checklist and select Continue, you will take a photo of your workspace. The app provides a QR code silhouette guide and real-time coaching (e.g., move closer, adjust angle) to help capture a valid workspace image.

Payment (shown only when pay is required)
If the exam requires payment and you have not already paid for the exam/course, a Payment step appears. You will select from available payment options (Exam Payment, Course Payment if applicable, or Token), enter billing information, and complete payment via the payment interface.
If payment is completed on the mobile application, the desktop progress view updates automatically, and you will advance to the next step. If the payment step cannot be completed in-app, the mobile app displays a "Waiting for Payment — Please complete payment on the computer" screen, and you must complete payment on the computer. Apple Pay and Google Pay are not supported at this time.

Camera and Positioning the Phone
This step confirms the phone's role for the exam session:
-
If side-angle webcam is enabled, you tap Continue to connect the phone as the side-angle camera. The app instructs you to position the device so your head, hands, keyboard, and monitor are visible at all times.
-
If you prefer not to use the phone as the camera, you can select Use Different Camera — the app displays an "Auth Complete" screen, and the desktop camera prompts you to connect an external USB camera instead.

Once the Camera step is complete and the phone is connected as the side-angle camera, the app provides visual guidance for placement. The phone should be positioned to capture:
-
Your head and face
-
Both hands and the keyboard
-
The computer monitor or screen
-
The desk/workspace area
You should prop or mount the phone so it stays stable throughout the exam. The app coaches you to connect to Wi-Fi and plug into a power source before starting if either is low.
During the Exam
Once setup is complete, select Continue, then click Focus Test Window on your computer to begin. The mobile app remains active in the foreground, streaming the side-angle view throughout the session.
Completing the Exam & Closing the Mobile App
When you submit the exam on the computer, the mobile app automatically detects the submission, disconnects the camera stream, and displays a confirmation screen. You can now close the app.
