Connecting a Mobile Device

When you begin the authentication steps, you will select “Use Honorlock Mobile App” to initiate a secure bridge between your desktop and phone.

Note: The mobile app works only on phones.  The mobile app is not compatible with iPads or tablets.

You will need to download Chrome on your phone and have Chrome open when launching the exam to use the Honorlock mobile app.

The "Scan and Go" Connection

A QR code is displayed on your monitor.

  • If the Honorlock Mobile Application is already installed, it launches instantly.

  • If the Honorlock Mobile Application is not installed, you are automatically sent to the App Store or Google Play. A quick rescan of the QR code syncs your session immediately.

Onboarding & Device Checks

If you are a first-time user, you will see a brief “How This Works” and “Tips for Success” tutorial. The app then runs a Hardware & Connection Check.

  • OS Verification: The system automatically checks for iOS 16+ or Android 7.1.1+. If the device does not meet these requirements, you will be prompted to update your OS or use a different device.

  • Required Permissions: During the initial setup, the app will request access to the following:

  • Camera: To provide the side-angle proctoring stream.

  • Microphone: To capture ambient audio within the testing environment.

  • Phone Call Detection: To detect if you receive or make an active call during the proctoring session.

  • If the app detects a weak signal or a low battery, it will instruct you to connect to Wi-Fi or plug in to a power source to ensure the connection doesn't drop during your exam.

Camera Positioning

Follow the clear, visual instructions to rotate the device and position it to capture the testing environment.

Launching the Exam

Once you confirm the device is stable and correctly positioned, select Continue, then Focus Test Window to start the Exam.

Submitting the Exam & Closing the App

Once you submit the exam on your computer:

  • The Honorlock Mobile Application immediately detects the submission and disconnects the camera stream.

  • A "Successful" screen appears on the mobile device to indicate that the session has ended correctly.

  • You can then close the Honorlock Mobile Application and put your phone away.

FAQs

General & Setup

What if I don’t have a phone?

  • If a mobile device is unavailable, you may use a dedicated external USB webcam. During the "Select a Webcam Method" step, you should choose "Use Dedicated Webcam" instead of the mobile app.

Do I need to create or sign in to an account on the Mobile App?

  • No. The app does not require a separate login. It is securely linked to the specific exam session via the unique QR code presented on your computer screen.

Does Honorlock have access to the photos, contacts, or texts?

  • No. The app only requests permissions for the Camera, Microphone, and Phone Call Detection. Honorlock cannot access your personal files, messages, social media data, or other personal information.

What if I denied permissions?

  • You must grant the required permissions, or you will not be able to use the Mobile App.

What happens if I am on a phone call while entering the Exam?

  • If you are on a phone call while going through the authentication steps before entering the exam, you will be asked to end the call before proceeding. You will not be able to enter the proctored exam until you end the phone call.

  • If you pick up their phone during a proctored exam, we will auto-pause your exam.
