Why Virtual Backgrounds Must Be Disabled
When taking an assessment with Honorlock, you must disable any virtual or blurred backgrounds on your device. Virtual backgrounds may interfere with the Honorlock extension and prevent you from starting your assessment session.
How to Turn Off Virtual Backgrounds
Windows Devices
Open your Windows Settings (press Windows Key + I). |
Select Bluetooth & devices, then click Cameras. |
Select your primary camera from the list of available devices. |
Look for Effects or Background effects and toggle them Off (or select Standard / None). |
If you are using a third-party camera app (such as Camo), open that software and disable any background filters or blur settings before starting Honorlock. |
Mac Devices (macOS)
Open the Photo Booth app on your Mac. |
Look at the menu bar at the top right of your screen (near the Wi-Fi or Control Center icons) and click the green camera icon or Video Effects button while the camera is active. |
Find the Portrait option. |
To turn the blur off, disable Portrait mode by clicking on the icon. |
If you are using a third-party camera app, open the app and disable all background effects. |
Chromebook Plus Devices
Select the Time in the bottom-right corner of your screen to open the Quick Settings panel. |
Select Camera effects |
Under Background, select Off to remove any active blur or virtual background images. |
If you continue to experience webcam issues after disabling your virtual background, click the Chat Support button at the bottom of your screen or go to https://honorlock.com/support/ to connect with a support agent.
